OK, folks, heres the one weve been waiting for~ Monday, January 20th at 4 pm, the House Agriculture Sub Committee will hear HB 135 Food Freedom Act in the West Conference Room on the 7th Floor of the General Assembly Building in Richmond. Whats the bottom line? This bill would amend Virginia code so there will be no restrictions for the sale of foods that are processed in the home or on a farm and sold directly to the end consumer as long as it has a label that states the name of the producer, address, ingredients and a disclosure that the product is produced without government inspection. For the purpose of this bill the definitions are as follows: Home: the residence of the producer. Farm: an agricultural facility that has ten or fewer employees outside of family. This bill, if passed, would give Virginians the ability to procure healthy, nutrient-dense foods from the local producers of their choice, without government interference, including cheeses and raw milk products. We urge all our friends in Virginia to contact the members of the subcommittee ASAP and urge them to vote yes on the bill. We need to flood the phones of these Delegates offices Monday morning. Your voice can make a difference! If you are able and available, please attend the hearing Monday afternoon. Chairman Danny Marshall: R District 14 (804) 698-1014 [email protected] Del.
