OK, since sledding seems to be such a popular topic and there are MANY risk takers commenting, what is the worst ACTUAL injury you received while sledding in Ann Arbor? Mine occurred sledding on the path in what is now called Argo Nature area; January 2nd, 1971, just shy of my 13th birthday. Gabriella Sold and I had been sledding at Beckley Park, but for some reason we thought that was boring and decided to go down this path in the woods! Why did we think this was a good idea??? I got up significant speed on my Radio Flyer, but it wasnt steering well - I saw the tree coming and knew I couldnt avoid it! But rather than rolling off, I held on for dear life! Gabe had to basically carry me back to her house where I was put in bed. When I hadnt moved for 3 hours, they called my folks. End result, I bled internally for two days before they figured out I had ruptured my spleen and required emergency surgery and a week in the hospital!
