OMAN PUPPIES Update: Hi, this is Rory. i received more information about the story of the 3 rescued puppies in Oman, and I know, we all cant thank Chris and another Canadian who helped, enough. I always say, we cant do everything to save animals, but we can do something....this story (see below) exemplifies that. Puppies and dogs are the same in any part of the world. We have freezing cold here with no way for the dogs to get out of it on the Reserves, and in Oman, they have extreme heat and no water. Hello Rory, Thank you again for your emails, what you have done to make a sanctuary is just amazing and my friends and I think that this is the ideal spot for these puppies to find homes. I dont know if I have mentioned this already but their names are Winston, Ellie, and Sophie!! The story of these puppies, started about month ago when our friends dog broke free of her collar on a walk and ran underneath an old parked semi where she found 5 puppies. They werent much older then a couple weeks their eyes werent open and they were crying for the mom. By this time it was close to 35 degrees not including the humidity and they were all fighting to find shade. We began visiting these puppies on a daily basis after we had seen the mom, we began leaving water and food for her as the puppies were still drinking her milk. This went on for about another 2-3 weeks, then all of a sudden the puppies were gone, we still saw the mom so we had hoped for the best and they were adopted but they were gone. We kept giving mom water and food and she became very friendly with us, but was still very scared of people. Then about a week and a half later they re-appeared but there were only 3 left and one had a really bad limp. Now the weather was close to 40 and the puppies were looking for water. There is a busy road not even 100 meters away and we were worried they were going to go and explore. That day we saw them return we met another women who just like us had been taking care of these dogs, another Canadian. She had mentioned how she was worried the puppies had also died but had taken them in to get de-wormed and get fleas and ticks removed. That night we decided enough is enough and we wouldnt let these puppies die, so we took them back to our apartments where they have lived ever since. Now we are basically hiding these puppies from our boss as he wont permit 3 puppies living in the building, plus there is no grass where will live just sand, garbage, and rocks. We are doing our very best to get these dogs house trained, walking on leashes, and socialized. These dogs are very playful and love people, they may have come from the wild but they have domesticated rather quickly. They love to eat and play!! As for the mom the lady was going to try and adopt her, she continued to visit and gain the trust of them mom. She actually just got her spayed!! But she is still not sure if she can keep the dog or not. There are so many dogs running around here that neutering/spaying them is our best option. Oman is almost all Muslim so for them dogs are a dirty animal and they are treated like so. Chris
