OMD...I was looking back at my GLA app and found this: What topics or kinds of activities would you like to see as a part of the Academy program? If you were planning it, what kinds of things would you include? I would really love to study Hellenistic art as well as the impact of Ovid on culture, especially during the Renaissance. This topic came up in class while reading Daedalus and Icarus. Our teacher showed us the painting Landscape with the Fall of Icarus by Bruegel, who lived during the Flemish Renaissance. As I chuckled when my eyes fell on Icarus’s legs flailing above the waves, I wondered just how many artists and writers were inspired by the stories in Ovids Metamorphoses. And what about Shakespeare, whose Romeo and Juliet was inspired by the tale of Pyramus and Thisbe? Exactly how many other writers were inspired by Shakespeare? My ultimate question is: How immortal is Ovid? And in turn, how immortal is Latin? I believe an intriguing project idea would be to research and present the significance of the Latin language in one subject or field (e.g. medicine, language context). #NOCOINCIDENCES
