OMoore FC 0-3 Portlaoise Shamrocks A pre season friendly out in Ballyroan ended in disappointment for all players as Tom Fitzpatrick(portlaoise shamrocks) got a serious looking injury after 89 mins and ref Paul Brown then blew the full time whistle. There was a long wait for the ambulance as players from both sides waitied with the injured player. The X-ray has revealed his leg is broke in two places over the ankle. Everyone wishes Tom a speedy recovery its another bad injury for the Shamrocks and a horrible start to the season. The game itself was won convincingly by the Shamrocks who were very short on bodies and only had 12 players with veteran Ozzie Dunne putting back on his boots after two years to play really well at centre back. The away side however short on players played most of the football in the first half and a good move involving Shane and Stephen Oloughlin created the first goal for Brendan La Cumbre whos second attempt was buried. Anthony Quigley and Brian Farrell were controlling the middle and the latter found Rory Heffernan whos first time volley was superb into La Cumbre on the wing his first time cross was met by Stephen O Loughlin who finished brilliantly at the near post. At the other end Keith Bill Lynch was sweeping up well to keep OMoore at bay himself and Ozzie dunne were solid and snuffed out most of the home sides attacks. In fact the Shamrocks could have been further ahead with a Lacumbre effort hitting the post and then a massive scramble that saw Steo O Loughlin and Rory Heffernan come inches away from scoring ,the home goal keeper was busier. Down the other end in goals Barry Linden in the goals made a few routine saves and was alive to every breaking ball. The second half The OMoores pushed on and great defending by full backs Glenn Scully and Tom Fitz kept the crosses to a minimum. A few corners were well defended well with sub Eoghan Scully getting a touch to two and Rory Heffernan clearing his lines with a great clearing header. The game was wrapped up 15 mins from the end Tom Fitz measured a ball in behing the back four and LaCumbre finished for his second. OMoores never gave in and the young striker forced Linden into a good save. Lynch and Dunne at the back were desperate for a clean sheet and got it in front of them Brian Farrell and Anto Quigley never lost the ball and won every tackle. Its a pity for this highly competitive friendly to end the way it did and again best wishes to Tom. There was no real standouts for the Shamrocks as all 12 players were excellent and although there was a lot of tired limbs and cramp setting in at the end everyone did their bit.It was the Shamrocks first preseason game while O Moores had 3/4 under their belt which made the performance more impressive.
