“ON HOLY GROUND” How serious do you think God was when He - TopicsExpress

“ON HOLY GROUND” How serious do you think God was when He told Moses to “take off his shoes” (Exodus 3:5)? Suppose Moses had declined? Suppose he had reasoned, “I know that it means enough to God to demand that I do it, but it is not a “go to hell” issue”? Fortunately, for Moses, it never came to that—he KNEW God meant what He said! But how different would that have been to what has become routine in today’s discussions? How often is it either said or implied…”I know that God said that, but He won’t send me to hell if I don’t do it?” What God says is “holy ground”! Gambling on whether He “means” it, or “really means it”, or “if you don’t do it you will go to hell” ignores divine sovereignty and diminishes Him to “altogether such an one as yourselves” (Psalms 50:21). Contriving artificial distinctions between “grounds for justification” and “ordinary” Divine expectations is not the work of a dedicated “bondservant”. Do you imagine that Uzzah might have thought protecting the ark was “weightier” than a well – intentioned but misplaced personal effort to aid in that protection? (2 Sam 6)? The entire O.T. teaches us to quit trying to determine which commandments of God are essential…(and there is nothing in the N.T. to suggest that there is greater leniency for us now – “whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for OUR learning” – Rom 15:4.)
