ON THE WATER REPORT by Captain Billy Nobles I have never seen - TopicsExpress

ON THE WATER REPORT by Captain Billy Nobles I have never seen an offshore bite as hot as the one we are currently experiencing. The snapper are unreal. Nearshore, offshore, and inshore it’s insane. The snapper inshore and nearshore are on fire so you don’t need a boat that’s able to run miles offshore to catch them. The inshore & nearshore fish are considerably smaller, but they taste great! The bait of choice is a small scaled sardines that are currently everywhere. If you can’t throw a net; don’t fret. The small shrimp that we are cursed with at the local bait shops work just fine. Just go to your favorite rock pile in the bay and hang a chum block or throw handfuls of the small baits over and trust me, you will see the snapper. To use the smaller baits, I like to use a 3/16 oz jighead or a small split-shot to get the bait down. Just drop your line over the side and let it drop naturally with freebies, when the line flies off the spool, close it, reel, repeat and you’ll have a limit in short order. Offshore, it’s basically the same game plan, but the fish are much larger and smarter. Inshore a 15” snapper is a good fish, but offshore a 12 pounder is a good fish. Also in state waters, the limit is 5 per person and in federal waters, the limit is 10 per person. So don’t stop to fish in state waters on your way in. It seems our larger mango’s offshore are coming on our flat line off the edge of our chum line. These fish are great fighters and awesome table fare.
