#ONWARD This is my suggestion to youths of Tharaka Nithi. No leader will come and feed you and your family. You will have to feed yourself. The leaders should only create an enabling environment for you to feed yourself and your family. Time is running out. Every indecision you make at a general election cost you 5 years. If you make wrong decision 2 times, That’s 10 wasted years. If you made the decision at 20 years, you will be 30 years - almost leaving the youth gap. This means you need to interrogate candidates on merit, competence and their ability to deliver, not mere hot air and sub county allegiance. Unite and form youth Saccos, investment groups and lobby groups to amplify your voices. These youth groups can engage in agrobiz, tourism, sports and the proceeds go the Youth Sacco. Individuals can subsequently borrow and advance their business. We have several young successful entrprenuers from the county. If you are organized, it’s easier for them to give back by offering mentorships programmes and tutorage You can create an umbrella of youth organizations in TNC to share and grow ideas. United, you can even lobby for a full-fledged Ministry of Youth Affairs. Through the ministry, you can push to have social halls in every sub county to develop talents and positive interactions. You can use your numerical strength to vet future leaders. Your voice is as big as your numbers. Remember, leadership does not know age or gender, therefore, dont strive to use your numerical strength to elbow out older members of Tharaka nithi County out of leadership. Rather, strive to use it to make sure everyone in the county is engaged, and those who merit, regardless of age get to serve. I should know, coz in the next 7 years, I will be out of the youth bracket - and that will not necessarily make me any dumber! I challenge you to form Tharaka Nithi students organizations to make sure your voice as youth and students is heard. You can push to have a county Loan board, to benefit the few among you who might be financially challenged. You can also push to have a county youth portal; where necessary resources can be made available. This include job opportunities, youth funds etc. I am sad that I am leaving the youth bracket, because at 32, the decision we make at 2017 will thrust me into 40 years. Losing all the privileges of being a youth at TNC. You guys still have a chance. Utilize it!
