OPTIONS FOR REHOMING YOUR PET First, it is the owner’s responsibility to find a new home for your pet. All options should be exhausted before taking your pet to the local animal shelter. The Nevada County Animal Shelter is intended for stray pets, and was not designed as an adoption center for pets with homes. As such, it should be considered the last resort, rather than the first. Following are suggestions for finding a home for your pet. Option 1. Ask suitable friends, family, coworkers and neighbors about adopting your pet. Option 2. If your pet is purebred, check with breed rescues online. Option 3. List your pet on Petfind. and Craigslist Option 4. Call local rescue groups about their adoptathons, and ask if you can participate with your pet. For Pet’s Sake: 263-3331, Scooter’s Pals: 265-9335 Option 5. Call KNCO Swap Shop and talk about your pet. Share the fun stories, and the sad story about why you can’t keep your pet. 477-KNCO Option 6. Make flyers with a good photo. Post at pet stores and feed stores, along with other places that allow flyers, such as thrift stores, vet clinics, etc. Option 7. Put an ad in Union newspaper. 273-9567. Choose ‘free pets.’ Also place ad in the Grass Valley Trader 272-4919 Option 8. Check the ‘Want’ list at the Nevada County Shelter, for people looking for certain breeds of animals. Option 9. Place your animal on the Owner Turn-In list at the Shelter. If we call and receive no answer within 24 hours, we will remove your name from the list. Option 10. Nevada County Paws offers placement assistance
