OSUN NOT ALONE ON ISSUES OF FUND SCARCITY State Government of Osun has debunked rumours making theround that it was unable to pay workers due to its debt profileand repayment commitment to the Federal Governmentdescribing it as an attempt to mislead the public. A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere said the inability of the state government was as a result of dwindling allocation from theFederation Account, which has affected the entire states of thefederation. The statement stated that the reduction in the state allocation was not due to any debt profile adding that the Federal Government did not single out Osun alone as been insinuated by the disgruntled elements, but as a result of what the Federal Government itself described as reduction in the Federal Revenue Allocation due to oil theft in the Niger Delta. He said those who go around spreading false information are determined to set workers against the state government, saying State of Osun is on number 36 on the revenue allocation sharing table. “It is unfortunate that one do not know the criterion that is used in sharing the revenue allocation these days because our state is now at number 36 on the table. We are aware the Federal Government said there is reduction in revenue accruable to the Federation Account, but we are also aware that the Federal Government funds some PDP states secretly through the backdoor at the expense of the states governed by the opposition parties. Even at this, there are several PDP states that have not been able to pay their workers salary regularly again since July2013 when the downward trend began with some owing between seven to eleven months salary while despite the politicking, we are still able to pay our workers up till September Salary”, he stated. He noted that until July last year, the state government has not fail in its responsibility to pay its workers salary as and at when due even making it mandatory that salaries must be paid latest by the 25th of every month, saying the problem began when Federal Government started reducing the allocation to the states drastically, a trend that, he said, has continued since then. Noting that with the announcement of the Federal Minister of Finance that austerity measures are been declared even at the federal level, it should be clear to all that the paucity of fund transcends Osun as been alleged by the mischief makers. Akere then sought the understanding of the workforce in the state for the time being, saying the situation would soon improve and normalcy would return to the polity positing that “hard times don’t last but only hard people do”.
