OTUMFUO OSEI TUTU II –( Asantehene) Otumfuo Osei Tutu II the 16th Asantehene ascended the Golden Stool on the 26th of April 1999. His Royal Majesty attended Sefwi Wiawso Secondary School in the Western region of Ghana for his secondary education. In 1969 he enrolled at the Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School for his A’ levels. He then moved to Accra in 1971 and was admitted at the Institute of Professional Studies, Legon for a course in Accountancy. Two years later, he travelled to the United Kingdom and continued his Accountancy Studies at the Kilburn Polytechnic. He later attended the University of North London where he read Human Resource Development and Public Administration. His Royal Majesty after his formal education worked in the United Kingdom and Canada in various capacities. On his return to Ghana in 1989, he was a successful businessman until his elevation to the Golden stool. He currently serves as the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. As Asantehene, he has gained global respect through his various initiatives including: The Otumfuo Education Fund to provide opportunities for quality Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and Vocational Education in Ghana. Over 5,000 students at various levels of education have benefitted from the Fund. A Health Fund to pursue a basic health care plan with the objective of providing financial and material support for the reduction of maternal and infant mortality, glaucoma and other eye diseases, Buruli Ulcer as well as the eradication of Guinea Worm disease. The Serwaa Ampem Aids Foundation for Children to support orphanages and work towards education, health and advocacy for children. He holds several Honorary Doctorate Degrees from many countries, including, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Ghana.
