OUTRAGEOUS: Convicted murderer Shane Pierre Harrison has escaped LWOP despite his murder conviction being a second strike offence. Harrison had previous convictions including for the manslaughter of Hamilton man Keith Adrian Cochrane in November 1987, indecent assault of a police officer (for which he received a first warning under the three strikes legislation in 2011), male assaults female, contravening a protection order, intentional damage and driving while disqualified. Parliament intended an offender MUST be sentenced to LWOP if murder is a second or third strike offence unless there are some truly exceptional circumstances that justifies and minimum non-parole period to be fixed and there were none in Harrisons case especially by the fact the Crown sought LWOP. We have urged the Crown to appeal this sentence as its so so WRONG! - Shame on you Justice Jill Mallon - Ross
