I will be brief & straight to the point. from where I stand bcp showed growth for many years and come 2014 fortunes declined.below is my own analysis and reasons. Firstly,the bcp party has no internal party democracy,since its inception,the central committee and parliamentary seats are decided by compromise,this affect interests of followers in attending party activities and influencing direction. Secondly,the bcp cadres paraded their leader as the best,intelligent and domain of ideas,this overshadowed others and rendered bcp a one man show.thus making any decision,bad or good,saleshandos brainchild Thirdly,bcp failed to shrug off the accusations levelled against their leader,eg,tribalist tendencies,dealing with bdp and pulling out of the umbrella. In the other,walking out of funerals and umbrella showed the party was reactionary. The other point is many bcp activists are extremists to the core,they never shrugged the image they had at bnf,mamela,Lotty manyapedza ,Jopi and others.they held their leader at ransom ,privately atleast.outside they supported him Decisions seemed to be from top to bottom,ownership of the party by members is minimal. Across constituencies they only had dumelang as the only crowd puller and orator,the rest of the leadership was shallow. The trust in the party by the public diminished after umbrella talks. What also broke the camels back is their double speak,today ,they will promise to support udc,tomorrow they attack it. Principally,street politics and petty talk destroyed them,I cant help but notice actions that showed the wanted to play to the gallery. Failure to focus attention on constituencies that are winnable, instead they went to tonota,kgalagadi to harm udc. party name and selfish extremists were defended over governance.they claimed they dont sell the soul of the party meaning name and slogan forgetting Botswana needed change,bread and butter,the names never matter,umbrella was the only way Bcp needed udc in the northern and eastern part of Botswana to finish what they started years ago Party elders like dingake defended everything,they never advised.just defend Bofepusu did their part,bcp never explained why it left talks. lastly,nepotism based on saleshando and dingake family continues to haunt them. I wish them well.I hope in future every member of bcp will debate issues ,not the current scenario where party stability is prioritised over democracy.lastly batswana need opposition unity,going alone cannot unseat bdp,hence they punish renegades.
