Fb id - https://facebook/arvind.sundaram.05 Obama Contest: OBAMA TAMIL SHORT FILM REVIEW The idea of writing a review for a short film, came to me only after watching it. Because it is very much worth it. A first time review for a short film . Okay, now let me move on to the film.. Titled OBAMA – I thought it has something to deal with America or whatsoever . But later only got to know while watching the movie, it was the short form of One Beautiful Afternoon at Mahabalipuram Area. It has so many threads woven into it, (twists) and it is good to see while watching the film. Though the movie had running time of 36 minutes, it did not seem so . The pace of the film was very fast and gripping. Right from the start, till the end, the movie was interesting. Coming to the performances, Bala Hasan as Anbu, as done a splendid job. His body language and dialogue delivery suits very well to his character and the film. His assault and casual reactions to every scene is good. He does not lose his cool in any point. As his friend, comes the director himself Vijayasundhar Duraisamy(Riyaz) . He has done what was needed. Late Vignesh Shanmugam (Vijesh) has pulled off his role as a bigshot, with ease. He looks like a trained actor. Condolences to the team for this actor’s death. Other characters Mohana Priya, Irfana and Muhad have also done justice for their minimal roles. Duraisamy has not only got a wonderful script, gripping screenplay, but also some superb dialogues. The dialogues adds value to the film. Dialogues had been written depending on the character of each role. This film has every chance to make it big in Kollywood as a feature film , if a good producer comes in handy. The short film itself has been shot in a grandeur manner. With lots of money spent into it. First time seeing a Jaguar Car for a short. And some foreigners too. The team has also travelled a lot. Each location is chosen with care depending on the scenes. DOP Ganesh has done a splendid job, I would say. The color tone given to each scene is nice. Few low angle shots have also come in support of the film. Music by Haran S Hari is of great back bone for the film. The theme for Anbu character is good. It travels along the film. Vignesh’s cuts has also given value to the film. The only drawback like, was the dialogues of Riyaz, which did not have much of lip sync at all. Dubbing of Riyaz’s character could have been more better. But that is not going to affect the film, when it has a very good plot in it. Than that, this film is sure to step in as a Kollywood feature film on the lines of Thegidi. Best wishes to the team. Rating for this short film wont be needed.
