ObamaCare: 13 and Counting Lost in the shadows of the government shutdown and the raising of the debt is this tiny little “settled law” that was forced upon the American people on the 1st of October. Those who support it refer to it as the Affordable Care Act, and all 13 of them were standing with the President in the Rose Garden on Monday afternoon. The rest of us, who werent at the White House for the photo-op, call it ObamaCare--and three weeks in, its not quite the disaster its opponents predicted. Its worse. How can that be? Obviously, there are more than 13 people who have been positively affected by this Democrat-only passed law, right? Yes. Someone in Vermont just signed up, so were up to 14 now. The numbers are going up so fast its nearly impossible to keep track! Thats why, thus far, we have no idea how many people have signed up for ObamaCare. Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services (whatever the hell that means), is the one in charge of this disaster, which is why we’ve seen about as much of her as Jimmy Hoffa in the last few weeks. In fact, there’s a much better chance of having Hoffa answer some questions about his disappearance than of Ms. Sebelius answering anything in regards to this new law, unless you watch only Comedy Central(nope, Im not joking), because she did go on Jon Stewarts show two weeks ago. Next week, for a change of pace, she’ll testify in front of Congress to try and explain why the ACA has been such a fiasco. Get ready for lots of “I dont have those numbers,” “Im not sure why,” “I dont have the answer to that,” “Ill have to get back to you on that one,” and my personal favorite: “At this point, what difference does it make?” answers. Lois Lerner and Hillary Clinton have set the bar rather high when it comes to stonewalling Congress. That being said, the Peter Principle, which says that, “In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence ... in time every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out its duties ... work is accomplished by those employees who have not yet reached their level of incompetence definitely applies to the soon-to-resign Sebelius, although a case could be made that she has reached the ultimate level of incompetence. Some may even say she’s perfected it. How else do you explain that the only real interview she’s done so far was with a comedian? The only explanation is that the idea behind ObamaCare was to get young people to sign up for health care for the first time in our countrys history. 18-29 year-old, single males think about health insurance about as often as they think about whats for dinner tomorrow night (tacos), what movie Meryl Streep and Cher starred in together (Silkwood), and what color is indigo, blue or purple (deep blue). You know when they think about getting health insurance? Right after they break their ankle. Excuse me, Im getting a call...Tennessee says someone from Knoxville just signed up Theyd been on hold since October 5. Were up to 15, although this guy, Jasper, is upset that he didnt win the “Sign up for ObamaCare and get a picture taken with the President” contest. He claims that, since he started the process 16 days ago, he should be eligible to have his picture taken with our esteemed leader. Had Jasper in the Rose Garden with the other 13, he would have been able to hear the President say, live and in person, that, The point is, the essence of the law, the health insurance thats available to people, is working just fine. In some cases, actually, its exceeding expectations. The prices are lower than we expected. The choice is greater than we expected.” This is precisely the moment when the lady standing directly behind the President nearly fainted--as did most of The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board. Actually, thats not fair, because ObamaCares critics arent just coming from those on the Right. The Chicago Tribune says the problems arent in the computer glitches, but in the law itself. ObamaCare cheerleader Ezra Klein of The Washington Post says the problems could be “deeper, more systemic problems.” Upon reading that, Jasper from Knoxville (I had to put Knoxville in there so as not to confuse you with all the others Jaspers who have signed up thus far) has opted out of ObamaCare. As it turns out, he only wanted the picture with the President. This despite the fact that he already got a picture with Obama when the stimulus package was passed. That brings us back down to 15. Were going the wrong way, folks. Look, the real problem here, besides this horrible law that was forced down our throats the way you feed a sick infant (which often results in gagging, regurgitating, vomiting, and hours upon hours of incessant crying), is that we have no leadership in Washington. For the President to have the gall to come out and say that, in some cases, it’s “exceeding expectations” is completely preposterous. Does he really believe what he says? Does anyone? He then went on to say that “the choice is greater than we expected.” Really? What the heck did these people expect, the choice between having your premiums go up, not being able to keep your doctor, or being kicked off your current plan? Pick your poison--you get all three! The President droned on and on that “everyones” insurance would go down because of this law. By everyone, he must have meant the 13 people (Jasper, are you in or not, man? Watch out for the one in red, she looks woozy) standing behind him in the Rose Garden. Both Obama and Sebelius said when the exchanges first opened up and the problems became obvious to everyone but apparently those two, that Apple wouldnt have folded up its tent if there were a few problems with the new iPad. No, they just would have lost billions of dollars. For a business, thats a big deal. For the government, thats October. This is why you dont have the government in charge of something like this. Incompetence is not to be honored. The business mandate was delayed last month by Executive Order, but the President at the time didnt see fit to give citizens the same option as big business. That was one of the main reasons for the government shutdown. Late Monday afternoon, rumors began circulating that the White House might consider delaying the individual mandate as well. And with that, the original 13, along with Jasper from Knoxville, all went home.
