Obituary for MSGT Cornard "Kirk" (C.K.) Hill, USAF (Retired) MSGT Cornard “Kirk” (C.K.) Hill, USAF (Retired) passed away on July 7, 2013. Born September 2, 1932 in Leaksville (present day Eden), NC to the late Connard & Pauline Hill, he was a graduate of Boyden High School Class of 1951 and a graduate of what is today the Pensacola State College. Cornard served in the United States Air Force 1951-1971. During the Korean War, Cornard served in the 502nd Tactical Control Group and the 605 Tactical Control Squadron. Until 1971 they lived in various states around the country and spent Cornard’s final USAF Tour of Duty in England. After retiring from the USAF he spent 28 years employed with Escambia County, Pensacola, FL school district in the Evaluation Services Department as well as a Deputy Sheriff in 1973-1974. He retired from the school district as a Senior Information Systems Technician in 2000. Having retired from the USAF in 1971 to Pensacola, FL he and Edwina decided to return to Salisbury after he entered the Florida Retirement System in 2000, and relocated to Salisbury, NC in 2002. He and Edwina considered Salisbury as home, since they both grew up here and married here on July 4, 1953. Cornard was active in the Catholic Church not only at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salisbury, NC but in the Catholic faith in Pensacola, FL and wherever stationed in the United States Air Force. Cornard was a member of the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342 of Salisbury, NC. Surviving is his beloved wife of over 60 years, Edwina Motley Hill, and children: Major Stephen L. Hill USMC (retired) and wife Annette of Pensacola, FL, Chief Petty Officer Veronica H. Welsh, USN (retired) and husband Stephen of York, SC, and Deborah H. Gafford-Radonich of Mobile AL; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Wednesday (July 10) at Summersett Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Thursday (July 11) at Sacred Heart Catholic, conducted by Father John Putnam . Burial will follow at the U.S. National Cemetery at noon on Thursday with military honors.
