Occasionally I have a tendency to compare certain experiences of my life to movies Ive seen. One such example is my whole experience in Prague. In terms of feeling, and aesthetic, I cannot help but compare it to the film Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels. Now why would I compare to that film you may ask? Well here are my points. - The entire film has a consistent high contrasting pallet of yellows and blacks. Prague at night was illuminated in such a way. - Most of the film takes place in what seems to be the poorer district of london. As such the apartments are in between medium and poor quality, certain places are falling apart, and graffiti decorates the walls. Though the apartments Ive been to arent all that bad, they still evoke the bohemian lifestyle Ive seen in the film. Also the graffiti speaks for itself. - Cobble stone streets... nuff said. - In the film there was a particular moment where the main characters realizes he has to make a million pounds in a week. Upon this realization were presented with a single shot where were focused exclusively on his face as he waltzes out of the room. All the while disorienting images are layered on top of the shot, making us feel like were going to collapse from shear stress. The poor sod gets out of the building and proceeds to throw up in a trash can. As a film student Ive had this moment. In fact Im pretty sure all of the students in PFS have had this moment in some way shape or form.
