We called the grassroots to rally Kentucky State Lawmakers urging them to address state election law to allow Senator Rand Paul to appear on state ballots more than once in the event he chooses to run for POTUS in addition to reelection as a U.S. Senator. While no progress was visible at the end of the August session, our efforts are now being seen. Last week, Kentuckys Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer introduced a bill to clarify Kentucky statutory law (KRS 118.405), clearing the way for U.S. Senator Rand Paul to run for President and U.S. Senator in 2016 should he decide to. Thayer argues that Kentucky election law should have no bearing on federal elections, and therefore Kentuckys legal prohibition against a candidates name appearing on a ballot more than once does not effect those running for federal offices! This bill, frankly, faces an uphill battle in the Democrat-led Kentucky House. While we endorse no candidates, we do know that a sizable faction of Republicans, conservatives, tea partiers, independents, and libertarians would like to see Rand Paul as a 2016 presidential option. His winning the CPAC 2014 straw poll stands as proof.
