Oct 25, 2013~ Carry a heavy heart or be joyful always?~ Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar on soda, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. Proverbs 25:20 I was prompted yesterday to go back and read through some of my older journals. I came across the name of another good friend who passed away in the month of October, Canon David Reid. He was the priest at our church and we became good friends from the day he came to the parish until the day he passed, which was Oct 11, 2007. Here’s what I wrote about those two good friends as quoted from my journals: Of David Ridgway: “David was an instrument of the Lord to me and other men.” And of Canon David Reid: “”As I consider the legacy of the ministry he shared I am truly thankful to God for what he did for me and for the church.” As I read Proverbs 25 in my cycle of readings today I wondered if I should ‘be joyful always’ as Paul writes to the Thessalonians or is that like putting vinegar on soda, or should I hold onto my heavy heart knowing that with it I am giving thanks to God for those influential people in my life who are no longer with me?
