Oct. 28 Do not expect to be treated fairly in this life. People will say and do hurtful things to you, things that you dont deserve...view it as an opportunity to grow in grace. See how quickly you can forgive the one who has wounded you...remember that I have clothed you in My righteousness and holiness...which I bought with My blood. This also is not fair; it is pure gift. How often have we heard, and how early did we learn, that life is not always going to be fair? Living in a family with four other siblings, I soon realized that my idea of fair was not always in line with what my parents thought was fair. As a teenager, I didnt really think it was fair when I had to move just before my senior year in high school just because my dad took another job. It isnt fair when someone has judged another person and hurt him/her, especially without knowing all the facts. It isnt fair that one person lives and another dies in the same tragic accident. It doesnt seem quite fair that one person has plenty to eat and clothes to wear just because they were born in one country instead of another. But it also isnt fair, it isnt what you or I deserve at all, when long ago God gave up His only Son to die for us and to redeem. What is fair about a death on a cross as a criminal when ones life is completely spotless and perfect? What is fair about being judged and condemned just because ones ideas are radically different? What is fair about being mistreated because of teaching that love for ones neighbor and turning the other cheek is a far superior way to live? What is fair about forgiving someone over and over who has done you wrong? And it certainly doesnt seem fair that we should be expected to forgive someone who has insulted us or wronged us just because God has forgiven us. Does that seem logical at all? Make allowance for each others faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love which binds us together in perfect harmony. Col. 3: 13-14 My puny examples of injustice pale in the light of what Christ endured for our sake.
