October 24th -- Proverbs 24 If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small v.10 The key word here is you, if you faint your strength is small. If I faint well that only demonstrates my humanness and the Lord knows my weakness. We are prone to that arent we, to have a harder standard when we look at others and an easier standard when it applies to me. Lord help us to be merciful as our Father in Heaven is merciful with us! Where does the strength come from to stand in the day of adversity? Where do we find what we need not to crumble but to have victory? How was Cory Ten Boom able to stand in a Nazi Concentration Camp when her father and sister both died? I believe that the Truth to all this is really two sided, the first part of it is the most important part, without which we stand no chance. The first part of it is the Lord, this Truth permeates all of Gods Word from beginning to end. The false teachers emphasize the person so much but the Word emphasizes the Lord. The Lord is ALWAYS the initiator, He takes the first step, He pursues us, He seeks the lost and runs after the wayward! He loves with a perfect love and His heart is that none perish, to those ends He labors! He has all power and might, all authority and all dominion. He gives His children grace and strength and walks with us each step of the Way. He was with Stephen when the wrath of religious people was raining down on him, Jesus stood to carry Stephen home. Cory said that the Lord gives dying grace when it is time to die. I have heard some say they are preparing for persecution, working out to be strong as though it is their strength that will get them through, silly! There is only One place, it is as we sit at the feet of Jesus, as we wait upon the Lord(Is.40:31), we exchange our strength for His strength, our ability for His ability, this is where the whole picture changes. So first it is the Lord we need, knowing it is Him and not us. The second part of it is that we take advantage of this open door to His strength. We ask and are filled with the power of the Spirit! We meditate upon the Word of God and seek the Lord more that treasure. As the Lord told Joshua this is where he would find courage and strength, this is where he would find victory and the Word would guide him as he led the people. It was the Lord all the way and it was his moving toward the Lord, walking in obedience to His commands and drinking deeply at the well of Life that would ensure strength in the day of adversity!!!
