October 3rd Watching the wind circle our house yesterday throwing rain on the east windows and then the west windows, yanking limbs from the trees and tossing them hither and yon gave me a fresh reminder of how Mother Nature can get my attention! Poor trees!! Admittedly I have a love affair with Mother Earth and especially trees! It is like a healing gift to ourselves when we stop the frantic pace in our lives and become aware of the gift of this temporary home. Whether we till the soil in our own backyard to plant a garden or a flower bed, stand in a stream in Colorado and watch the aspens glitter like gold, sit upon a large boulder on Dana Point beach in California, or weep with awe as we gaze into the Grand Canyon...each opportunity reminds us...Yes, there is a God. Today lets touch this Earth with our own signature style: hug a tree, recycle litter, plant flowers outside a shut-ins window, take deep breaths of clean air in a meadow...as much as possible..get outside and be in awe again for a moment or two of our temporary home. I yield myself to the thousand enchantments of sky and field and wood, and play again like a child on the soft green of the earth. And as the God of the universe has made thee to bloom in tenderness So also may my heart be made to bloom again. Max Ehrman
