October 8th Day 1 I Can Statement: I can work by myself to build a LEGO structure that is symmetrical. Good Morning STEM Families, In our follow-up rotation to learning about the Gateway Arch and symmetry, students are reviewing what it is to be symmetrical and what a line of symmetry does. We are switching from our loud, wooden blocks to the much quieter LEGOs, blue plates, and rubber bands. Each student was asked to design a symmetrical LEGO structure on their blue plates using a rubber band as their visible line of symmetry. Today I was simply amazed at what students are capable of demonstrating when working with materials they love! All of the students were able to accomplish their activity today; however, some of the designs from kindergartners through fourth graders were amazing! Second, third, and fourth graders took another quiz (using Kahoot) on shapes and forms. The first graders experimented with Kahoot, and I learned some much needed information on how to bring this online quizzing down to an appropriate level. Kindergartners listening to the non-fiction text, The Gateway Arch, written by Lisa Bullard. Have a great day and enjoy your daily video! Love, Mr. Overway vimeo/108405176
