October: Month of Prayer for the Missions October is a special month of prayer for the Missions. World Mission Sunday will be celebrated on 19th October 2014 and the theme for Mission Sunday this year is “That they may have life”. In writing for Mission Sunday, Pope Francis asks us to reflect on the joy Luke’s Gospel reveals. “The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. With Christ, joy is constantly born anew”. Today, vast numbers of people still do not know Jesus Christ and for this reason, mission continues to be most urgent. The Church is missionary by nature and was born “to go forth”. So our first task this Mission month of October is to proclaim the Gospel of Christ. “Be missionaries of God’s love and tenderness and mercy.” Pope Francis Christ has no body now on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion is to look out to the world. Yours are the feet by which he is to go about doing good. And yours are the hands by which he is to bless us now.
