October is Lupus Awareness Month, and as a Lupie myself, I would like for my friends and family to share this short film. Hopefully it can help more folks understand how Lupus affects people, and although I may look healthy on the outside, my immune system is constantly fighting itself! Being a Lupie has had some life changing events, events such as altering routines, limited outdoor sun soaking (working on that tan of mine is no longer a routine I can do leisurely), how a common cold for me could quickly turn into pneumonia, and with no ADVANCE notice my Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) can flare up so bad I would feel as if I was thrown into a brick wall. Probably the biggest challenge of all is the financial stressors of the added meds, medical costs, appointments, infusion costs, injections, and those lovely days you aren’t well enough to report to work. I face Lupus each and every day, I have learned so much, and thankful for the amazing support system of my mother Maria I. Kuilan and father Angel R Kuilan . I try not to advertise when I am not well, I won’t lie though...putting on the game face has its challenges.
