Ode to my Dad, ive spent many storms with him like this. Wood stove crackling, warm, something simmering on it, sitting around a round table made from a CMP cable spool. In the woods. I can hear Dads soft foot steps as he happily made his way to the stove or to the beer outside the door. While we either had a bible on the table cause he would teach me out of it. For some of you who dont know it, he spent some time in Thomaston hell jail and life was real for him. The bible mattered. It was so cozy, surrounded by trees and the best family of neighbors we could ever ask for. At other times Dad would pull out the guitar or just say, hey, lets go for a walk to the lake. Following winding paths under the star filled sky and crunching snow under our feet. No flash lights. I wish I could live this again with him. And enjoy the simplicity of it again. The best way to spend a Maine Winter Storm.
