Off topic, but on point with recent conversations, also probably a little long winded and possibly preachy, so I apologize in advance ... but Im feelin pretty good nowadays and thats when you want to spread the vibes (no, not the Vibe. Very few people want to spread him around) ... We all have at least one thing in common: We all like comics. We all probably like the comics covered by the eras that Back Issue covers. (I think) we all speak some degree of English. After that ... were not all the same. We dont even have to be a New God, or Inhuman, or just, well, Guy Gardner, to have lots of other things different. We all have different tones, ideas of humor, wit, entertainment, and appropriateness. And guess what? Welcome to the internet, where we all get to express this stuff as we see fit. As a citizen of the internet, Ive occasionally run into someone pulls me aside (virtually or literally) and asks me a question: Hey, are you my friend of what? Youre kinda mean to me. Invariably, this person will not be from the same part of the country (or world) as me; I grew up outside of Brooklyn. I may not have been on the same streets as Jack or Stan, so my friends may not exactly act like the Newsboy Legion or the Yancy Street Gang, but I have news for you ... my friends and I bust each others chops. Relentlessly. BRUTALLY. And Im sorry, folks .. but were friggin hysterical. But not everyone is used to it. My answer to these people is the same: If I wasnt your friend, all my comments about you wouldnt be funny. Trust me, if I dont like you ... Im just blunt. I like you, so I crack jokes. I will try to tone it down. And if they werent my friend in the first place, then I just tell them to get over it and dont get so butt-hurt. This goes both ways, folks. If youre making a comment that not everyone may find acceptable ... consider toning it down. If youre offended at a comment ... keep in mind that some of us might not be. The bottom line is its just a conversation. About comics. And comics r gud. Now, can someone help me down from this soapbox?
