Official Confirmation has been received tonight by the Mayor of the Lower Rosses Returning Officer - Seamus Rodgers that the Election of Mayor of the Lower Rosses will take place over the June Bank Holiday weekend 2015. Sean Rodgers, Mayor of the Lower Rosses was elected in August of 2010 starting off a successful reign as Mayor. The 2015 Election will once again see candidates elected at Primary elections in the Major townlands of the Lower Rosses before a week-end of voting in June. At present, the Mayor Séan Mac Ruairí is considering his position whether to run for another term of 5 years. If he does he will be starting out as favourite given his popularity over the 5 years but several names have already emerged as contenders and there is a determination the other townlands to wrestle the Chain away from Rann na Feirste. It is expected that each Townland will select their candidates at Dinner nights in those areas in late April. Seamus Rodgers Returning Officer said tonight It is my duty to call an election for the Mayor of the Lower Rosses position. Under new European guidelines, the election of a sitting Mayor shall not exceed 5 years and one month. I am therefore duty-bound to call the election in advance of the due date and further instructions shall be announced in the coming weeks.
