Often times when we exercise intensely on one component of fitness we tend to lose another. For instance if we are focused on building power we tend to lose a little bit of strength. Or if we train for muscular endurance we tend to lose some power and speed. Some of these fitness categories help augment one another though. For instance, lifting for strength builds the capacity for power lifting for Muscular Endurance (Muscle Mass) builds the capacity for strength. Why not train all at the same time? Well we do and its called Cluster lifting! Cluster lifting is one of the best ways to vertically integrate Strength, Power and speed! A Cluster set is when you put similar exercises of varying loads and speeds within one series. So here we have Ebony Crowell who has her sights set on becoming a competitive track athlete in he masters ranks perform a cluster series of exercises. For strength she is dead lifting, for power and speed of movement she is doing seated box jumps and to work the antagonist group of muscles she is performing a knee tuck with a stability ball.
