Oh my Jesus it just gets worse... Journals again (October 29; just after missile crisis) - I stopped by to see the president... he seemed relaxed and chipper but far from complacent. He said that it was too bad that all this (the closest weve ever come to nuclear Holocaust!) had happened in the midst of a campaign because the Republicans would now feel complled to attack the settlement. Not only does this show the true aim, to hold onto power rather than serve the people, but also shows that JFKs tiny compromise to stop nuclear war was considered too liberal! Theres no point in imagining what life would be like if Nixon had won in 1960 because there probably wouldnt be any life... it could easily have gone the other way even with liberal JFK. Can you imagine any situation in which small Anarchist collectives could risk the destruction of life on the planet? This is the true nature of the system of government that serves and protects us and pretends to be democracy.
