Ohio Valley Highlights Jon DeJong Weather Data Performance Manager Bio UPDATE: Severe Storms To Start Affecting IN/MI By 7PM A widespread severe weather outbreak is expected for portions of the region this evening and into tonight. A line of showers and thunderstorms has started to develop across Illinois and will continue to expand and head eastward into Michigan and Indiana, mainly after 6-7pm. At this time, the main threats will be very strong wind gusts of 60-80 mph and large hail, with a small risk for tornadoes. This line of storms will race eastward through the evening hours, reaching northeastern Ohio by 9-10pm, then spreading across the northern and central portion of the state through 2am, then moving into West Virginia before moving out of the region by 5am. Areas that are impacted by this very strong line of storms can expect to see very strong wind gusts of 60-80 mph and very heavy rain. Severe storms may also develop to the south of this line, affecting central and southern Indiana and central and southern Ohio and into Kentucky. In addition to this main area of storms, scattered activity may develop ahead of the line, mainly across Ohio after 7pm. Flooding will also be a concern for areas that see the main line of storms move through, as it will be capable of producing 1-3 inches of rain or more. Temperatures will be 5-10 degrees above normal south of I-80 and somewhat above normal to the north. Rain showers and embedded thunderstorms will be possible across eastern Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia on Thursday. Strong storms are not expected. Rainfall amounts could approach 1 inch across portions of West Virginia. Mostly dry conditions are expected to the west. There could be isolated lingering showers across portions of Virginia. Mostly dry conditions are expected on Thursday night. There could be a lingering shower or two across the higher terrain of West Virginia.
