Ok.... I am doing a Retirement Party in a Residence I have been working at for 4 years but they are replacing me in December with a much less experienced DJ and paying him more. (But this is a different story) I am on a small stage. I woman nearly pulls my screens over so I announce for people to come to the side of the stage for requests etc. Shortly afterward another woman comes up on stage, intoxicated falls over into my disco equipment pushing my Mixer, Laptop and Microphone transmitter over. I manage to catch the Mixer and Laptop but Transmitter hits the floor. Lucky me no damage. However, i announce once again not to come up onto the stage. Half an hr later two pissed up women making there way up onto the stage fall over both crashing into the equipment.knocking everything crashing to the floor. The Mixer, Laptop. transmitter etc. They even knocked both speakers over that went bouncing down the dance floor. Picture this... my equipment scattered all over and they are sat laughing thinking it is extremely funny!. All I could think of was the damage they have caused. My Transmitter smashed so Mic will not work. Plug old wire Mic in and announce that because several warnings have been given NOT to go on the stage that has been ignored and as a result of this equipment is damaged and the disco is OVER. I did this while my equipment was scattered all over like a train wreck. Yes speakers still working. In fact everything was apart from my radio Mic because transmitter was smashed. It took me an hr to pick things up, check them and test them. But what annoyed me just as much was a member of bar staff coming over while all my equipment was scattered all over the place and saying...You should not have spoken like that. They are our customers and btw i have spoken to the manager who said you can get the damage sorted on your insurance. So here is my thoughts..... There could have been extensive damage that could have put me out of work for weeks or even months (I only do this. This is my bread and butter) until repairs or replacements was done through insurance yet no one could give a dam or take any responsibility. Not even for the damaged microphone. What would other fellow mobile DJs have done?.
