(I thought he was suddenly speaking Latin) as he said, This principle indicates that the upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body displaces. Oh, another law of physics? I asked, as I yawned. Well, in laymans terms, he continued, its when a ship displaces water--if you take the volume of the hull of the ship thats below the water line, the displacement of water determines how many tons of ship you can put in the water. OK, I said. Thats not really my expertise, he said, thats fluid mechanics--although I did take a few courses in it. OK, I said. Everything is re-produceable in science, he said. OK, I said. Youre going to get your degree in engineering, he said. I dont think so, I replied. But, we only need one engineer in this family, he said. Thats for sure, I replied. So, dont give up your English Major, OK. I have only one question about all youre pontifications about ships, I said. Whats that? he asked. When are we going on a cruise? Its funny, he said, things I know about are absolutely foreign to you. And you dont give a rip. And things you know about--well, who is Twavis Twit, anyway? Its Travis Tritt, not Twavis Twit, I replied. Come on, I said, Lets go listen to Can I Trust You With My Heart?
