Ok, So I recently completed a 2 month long Emory Univ. course on The Addicted Brain. The final week was treatment and I found that I was either naive or just well brought up. They discussed the stigma of addiction in American society and I completely disagreed with it. I felt that a former addict should be supported and revered for their strength in facing their demons. I realized that I was placing the recovering addict on a pedestal that they might feel was more like prepping them for a tomato and egg toss. Am I really that wrong? Does American society really demonize even the recovering addict or is Dr. Kuhar behind the times?
