Ok, clearly you all wont know every detail that has happened up until now. There is too much to post that has happened in the last 50 ish days or so. I cant hardly believe we are coming up on 2 months old! Wow that went fast. I realize summers fly anyways but wow. Cant say Im disappointed summer is going fast, Im happy it has as that means we are closer to taking our little one home. Heres sort of the big things that happened during our NICU stay thus far: Eva was born at 31 weeks. We had been followed closely in SF because at our 20 week ultrasound we learned that Eva had what they thought was a cyst on her right kidney. At 21 weeks we had an ultrasound in SF and they said she had hydronephrosis (kidney swollen with pee) and possible double ureter on the right side. We went back at 27 weeks and saw less hydronephrosis, still double ureter, and now a possible ureterocele, and low amniotic fluid. Im not going into detail about what that all means because we dont have that stuff going on. We were seen 3 weeks later because of so many changes. At 30 6/7 weeks, we had our last ultrasound. I had no amniotic fluid. Eva quit peeing due to some sort of blockage. Eva had sustained some kidney damage since she quit peeing. Her little body retained all that fluid so Im guessing she weighed about a pound more at birth than she should have because of it. Her actual birth weight was 4 lbs 1 oz but that was after they drained almost 4 oz of fluid from her abdomen. She was quite sick when she was born, but we are so thankful she was. We dont think she would have survived much longer inside me with no amniotic fluid. We are just glad shes here!! At 8 days of age, one of her nurses discovered she had no anus. We had an MRI to see whats exactly going on inside her and had surgery on that Saturday to create an ostomy. Thats when we found out about her having a cloaca and vacterl. Eva will have a colostomy for around a year or so until her next surgery. She will need another surgery to connect her bowels to her bottom and to create holes for a vagina and colon. Im not sure exactly how that all works or if it will be just one surgery or more. Thats rather far away, so we arent worried about it right now :). We have had a lot of other things going on, like a PDA that wont close and she had a foley catheter up until Friday last week, she is likely colonized with MRSA now, she was on the ventilator for 10 days, she had to be on dobutamine for 2 days because of decreased ventricular function, she has had 2 different PICCs, the second which caused her to go into SVTs for 20 minutes, it took 3 doses of adenosine to convert her, oh, shes a preemie...... But those are all minor things now. Now we are just working on eating and growing and getting home. I will update about things that are going on now, unless I feel the need to go into further detail about her history at a later time. If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to ask Ethan or me at any time. We are happy to tell Evas story
