Ok dont fall for the rhetoric and rumors around Harry Reid, Chinese Solar farms and Cliven Bundy. Chinese Solar Deal with Harry Reid is Kaput-No Where Near Bundy jenkuznicki ^ | 4/14/14 | Jen Kuznicki Posted on April 14, 2014 at 7:00:46 PM EDT by jenk Dont get me wrong, Harry Reid is behind everything in Nevada, but I havent seen evidence that the solar deal with ENN is even still being considered. After The Blaze reported that ENN dumped the project, I still see links to this Reid/Chinese deal that isnt happening. A Chinese-backed company is pulling the plug on a multibillion-dollar solar project near Laughlin after it was unable to find customers for the power that would have been generated there, a Clark County spokesman said Friday. In a letter dated Friday, an executive from ENN Mojave Energy LLC informed the county that the company was terminating its agreement to purchase 9,000 acres near Laughlin, stating that the “market will not support a project of this scale and nature at this time.” The company, a subsidiary of ENN Group, described as the largest energy company in China, said it was unable to sign the necessary power purchase agreements to sell the energy generated from the solar plant to utilities in Nevada or neighboring states. After seeing countless blogs mention that ENN and Rory and Harry Reid are the reason the feds left Bundy alone, I feel like someone should be able to tell me how the deal is even still viable. I did read an old impact study by BLM on mitigating solar project challenges, and they did talk about a solar test station north east of Vegas, but it is still west of the area where Bundy grazes his cattle. What is happening, signed off by the Obama administration, regardless of market viability, is another solar panel farm in Primm, Nevada, near the largest solar farm in the world in California in the Mohave Desert, referred to as the Ivanpah solar plant. Primm is an hour and a halfs drive from Laughlin, where the ENN project fell through. The solar farm in California, has been blinding pilots on flights from Vegas to LA, barbecuing birds when the birds get near the sometimes 1,000 degree heat that thousands of garage-door-sized mirrors would tend to do, and they had to relocate some 200 desert tortoises at the cost of $55,000 per tortoise, and it has been online since January of this year. The area around Primm, Nevada, is about to become even more of a hotspot for solar energy. The Obama administration has endorsed two big projects near the existing Ivanpah solar plant that went online in January. One of the new developments would be in San Bernardino County; the other would be east of Interstate 15 in Nevada, near a smaller plant in operation since 2012. The approvals, announced Wednesday, Feb. 19, renewed concerns among some environmentalists about the potential loss of wildlife habitat, in view of the dozens of desert tortoises displaced by the Ivanpah project and continuing concern about bird deaths at solar plants. The Stateline and Silverstate South projects are proposed by Tempe, Ariz.-based First Solar Inc. If both are built, solar energy plants would cover about 13 square miles of public land in the Ivanpah Valley.
