Ok, heres under just a thought category! I have been the squeaky wheel for Minimum Training Requirement! Why you ask?, or really dont care, if so Dont waste your time, just dont send me game requests, :) Ok I know they have been working on a BASIC training requirement since the 1980s Yep thats right the 80s hmmm thought Leisure suits and Big hair were out!. Anyway, simple things, like an apprentice program that would gradually introduce drivers to different situations with a trained person on board to mentor!!!! Whoaaaaaa, stop right there, this isnt a forum to discuss whats wrong with trainers heard um all, you aint got no new ones! Its just part of my program i am doing with my clients, I am introducing a Apprentice ride along program. Like Any other professional occupation has Apprentice, or Intern program. Why dont we look for talent from accredited Schools or Community Colleges, and tap the pool of talent like a sports team. We can Mentor, or intern a person after Graduation. The new Grad, can sign off new challenges and situations as well as personal contact with a top driver. Look The part of the country I live in and the years of being in the business, I have seen many of local companies large and small look at a programs, to not only keep loss pay down but to get and train good drivers for the long term. we call it investing in retention and the future. It work, several companies I have worked with have kept accidents down, and rewarded with good safe drivers.Drivers that stay, realize, that well rooted established Employment is a benefit! So thats called RETENTION Part of the program not only teaches Basic Driver Skills, the Mentor can and will also familiarize the driver with the equipment and all the little idiosyncrasies of that truck! Now that said.......New Driver, gets my phone number off my website, calls me with a question. I am very glad to oblige this young man. Whats the Question? Someone told me i could set my cruise control to set my trucks Idle while im sleeping and it wont shut off? I said depends but yea, Then he asked me........If you set the Cruise control, why doesnt the truck move? WE NEED A MINIMUM TRAINING STANDARD AND WE NEED IT QUICK!
