Ok medical fb fam... i am desperate. On June 13 i had a root canal. Late that night, i ended up in the ER because the pain in my face was so bad. After several failed attempts to control the pain with narcotics; we were finally successful and sent home with an antibotic and and steriod. I was pain free the entire time i was on the steroid. As soon as the med ran out, the pain came back with a vengence. I called the dentist and updated him. He prescribed the same antibotic and steroid for a second round of treatment. Again, it worked like a charm until the last day. I have been in agony since Sunday. Wednesday i couldnt take it anymore and went back to same ER. This time they would not give me more steroids. They gave me lyrica and toradol and sent me home with diagnosis of (TN) trigeminal neuralgia. (I have a history of TN on the other side of my face.) Been on the Lyrica 3 days (i know it has to build in my system) but it and the toradol are not touching the pain! And since when does TN respond to steroids?? And TN usually responds to pain meds. I cannot take the pain anymore. I have not slept since Sunday. My only reprieve is chewing ice and that is getting really old. Cold feels good, heat hurts. CT negative. Dental xrays negative. What can i do?? I cannot go another night without sleep.
