Ok not Abersychan photos but len does live on Pentwyn. This was given to me by Len Giles engineer at Blaenserchan Colliery A retired miner of today thinks about his past. While is present fades away he has a memory full of wealth wisdom and also low pay. He was a man who saw suffering-hardship and short time. He also walked to work covering many a mile. He was a man who worked with the glare of an old oil lamp. He also walked back home, while his clothes were still damp. He was a man who paid for his tools and kept is hatchet sharp he also had a number and chalked his marked. He was a man who saw the means test. That brought a tear to many a home. They would cut your cost of living! Many hearts were torn. He was a man who strapped in shops to make ends meet. On Friday he paid it back, to start again the following week. He was a man who would not go on the sick. But sometimes was very ill. His wife would worry because she could not pay the bill. He was a man who had many a disease. But after died from dust. The Doctor would put other causes and bury him without a fuss. He was a man who went to his chapel and his church and knelt in prayer. He also had a drink of wine and sometimes he would swear. He was a man who paid his union and had to show his card. He was loyal although it was sometimes hard. He was a man who loved his old pit horse. Know he has gone. With tears in his eyes he knows they were wrong it’s true to say. They must be wonky! If we had worked with our balls hanging out they’d call us donkeys. He was a man to say they are spending money on museum pits and the old miner is living on his wits. If they need tourists to come to his cottage he could tell them some tales. They would walk away with a tear and a sob. Because he would tell them how he was pitifully robbed. He was a man who would say to all Politicians and Union Leaders too. “We need compassion, strength and care.” So its up to you, give us a pension that we can enjoy in our retirement age. Make us proud- ALL WE ASK IS A DECENT WAGE. He was a man who sought no luxury, only a little more pay. His life time has not been riches. Always been poor. He was a man servants in your care. But remember this it was him who put you there. Ok who had a little tear after reading this, I did and ive read it many times
