Okay I am going to get all nostalgic on you and show my age with this post. Well not literally but I am sure it wont be hard for anyone to make a good calculated guess. lol.. The biggest news in Kalkaska of late is this little town is going to get a WALMART ! whoo hooo! Thats a great deal of progress right there. If I had a choice and I could choose between a Walmart or having the little town of Kalkaska back the way it was in 1965 I would choose I would choose the 1965 version. It had most everything Walmart has except each department was under a separate roof and had its owners instead of department managers. Plus they each cared about the customers needs much more than the big box stores. Yes you might end up walking a little more, but over time that would take away the need for the electronic carts that Walmart offers. At the beginning of the block was the 5 & dime store, It carried a sundry of items from cotton hankies, wash cloths to rubber bands to keep your socks up! but my favorite thing of course was the display at the candy counter. An array of candies shown off in glass cubicles, the clerk would use their little metal scoop and pour the candies into a small white bag atop the scales. My favorite was the pastel coconut bon bons, my sister liked the chocolate discs with the tiny white sprinkles on top. My grandmother would buy us each a bag of candy and it made for a happy day. Now the little town has drifted away to progress I. really wish my children could have had some of these same experiences of old town Kalkaska There are times when things in life just seem to drift away and we dont realize how great it is before its gone. So now its just memories that brings the life back into those days, funny how that works. Now its time for a new thing. Perhaps your walk with the Lord is now just memories, unfortunately those memories of the way it used to be is not sufficient, we must be renewed 2nd Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here
