Okay, I have a story! About 1978 I have a 5 piece variety band. We had some great players, including Woody Lingle on bass, Randy Drake on drums, Bob Ward on guitar and Woodys wife Debbie was the singer. We got hired to play a wedding reception in Fort Worth for an attorney. Everyone in the band lived in Denton. The day of the gig we had one of those infamous North Texas ice storms. Everything was shut down! So I called the groom and asked if the party was still on. Yes, he said, nothing will stop this party. The day went on and the weather got worse and worse. After 3 more phone calls to the groom it was obvious that he wasnt going to cancel. So the whole band got in my van, and we drove to Fort Worth. It took about 3 hours, and the roads were treacherous. We finally got there and the groom met us at the car with a $20.00 bill to pay for our gas, saying he was canceling the reception because no one showed up! Those of you who know me know that I am pretty mild mannered, but that pissed me off! I said No way! Were playing and youre paying! And we did! I gave that jerk 5 chances to cancel for free before we made the drive. After that drive I held the lawyers feet I the fire with the contract he had signed!
