Okay … Im an educator (38 years) but I would have to go back to school to teach history and I love history. One thing for sure … my maps and geography I learned has changed but has our history? I dont think so but I guarantee you that students today are not learning the things I learned in regards to patriotism, values and traditions. History is about the things that went on in this country not the country or countries from where our immigrants have come from. I want to use an example. Texians in the fight for the independence for Texas and not Mexico. When Texas joined the United States … they became Americans first and Texans second. Also … we should remember when a person comes an American they know longer hold citizenship with the country from whence they came. We dont celebrate dual citizenship. Heres another oddity you need to consider. Nearly 1 of 5 people in the United States speak not English but a different language at home. As strange as this is … consider the value of knowing English. If you were to go to a different country where there are several people representing different countries … interesting enough most would know English and would use it to be able to communicate to each other. Speak another language if you want but learn to speak English as well. In America, lack of knowledge of the English language will greatly hinder a persons ability to achieve excellence and advancement in any field they might choose. Learning to speak English will unify our nation.
