Okay. So Meghan Daley Child gave me 8. Here goes. Lets see how well I do. :) 1. My thoughts on girls wanting to own 50 million pairs of shoes: to each her own but I dont get it. 2. I like old-timer music (Bing Crosby, Rudy Vallee, Glenn Miller, Sinatra) 3. I love antiquing and actually use the things I buy. For example, I needed an ice cream scoop so I bought one that was used in the 1940s. I need a pizza cutter and will be seeking out an antique or vintage one that was made to last decades and possibly centuries instead of buying a crappily made one that Ill have to replace next year. I also have two old school popcorn makers. One is an air pop and the other is a small kettle with a handle you need to turn while making it (yep, I make popcorn the old-fashioned way...no microwave popcorn for me...that stuff is gross). 4. Stemming from number 3: It annoys the crap out of me when people ask me Why dont you just go get one at Walmart? So unless you want a death stare from me you will never ask me that sordid question. EVER. 5. I like doing crossword puzzles. Yes, there was once a time I thought they were for old people, but they are AWESOME for keeping your brain active. Forget Luminosity or whatever they are advertising. Crosswords are where its at. My 87-year-old grandfather has been doing them for as long as I can remember and is very mentally sharp. 6. Though I list my favorite authors as being Stephen King, Bram Stoker, Anne Rice, H.P. Lovecraft, Clive Barker, and Edgar Allen Poe, one of my all-time favorite books is Wuthering Heights. 7. Im a Paleo, meaning much of what I eat mimics the hunter/gatherer way of eating. I started this back in late July/early August and lost 15 pounds. I dont count calories or fat grams (I actually dont even pay attention to that) at all, I never order anything skinny, and while I havent cut all gluten, Ive cut alot and do feel much better for it. Odd thing is? Years ago I was a strict vegetarian/borderlining vegan and I was actually at my unhealthiest at that time. Looking at photos of me from that time is almost disturbing as my face looks hollow and sunken, though I would also attribute that to other things that were happening in my life at the time. But I do find that being a Paleo works alot better for me than being a vegetarian. I am VERY picky about where I buy meat, though. It absolutely has to be locally produced, free-range, and grassfed (and thats what paleos encourage anyway). 8. Im a minimalist. Meaning I use things until they cant be used anymore, I dont buy something unless I need it and THEN Ill wait until I have the money for it if I dont. I dont use credit cards (the closest I get to that is my bank card), I dont buy a new gadget if I dont feel Ill have the need for it and if I shop, its usually from a locally owned and independently run store or a second-hand store. Or sometimes Ill just make something myself (I do this alot with personal care and cleaning products...youd be surprised all the things stuff like vinegar, baking soda, and coconut oil can be used for). I use coupons, I know how to make even organic food stretch (thanks, grandma), and it is a VERY rare occasion that you will see me buy something brand-new from a global-corporate chain, I still go to the library if funds are tight and I want a new book to read (same for movie rental stores), when I do get an ebook I just have a kindle app on my laptop, and well you get the picture. My view on Consumer America is this: People buy things they dont need, with money they dont have to impress people they dont like. There, I did it!!! :D
