Okay everyone, the homecoming tailgate/reunion is on. The game is in 10 days, on Friday September 12th. Everyone and anyone is invited. I dont care if there are 5 or 500 people, if you were a part of the class of 2007, you are invited to join the tailgate along with spouses or significant others and children (or solo and childless like yours truly ;)) Once I figure out WHERE it will be located, I will let you know, but more likely than not somewhere on the front lawn near the southwest entrance (if you can remember back that far, the entrance on the end of the English department on the first floor, History department on the second floor). At this time, this is my thought for food. I will bring my grill and provide burgers and hot dogs and bags of chips and bottles of water. It would be helpful if you would at least RSVP a message to me with how many people will be attending so that I dont purchase too much/not enough food. To help me offset the cost of the food provided, I would ask that everyone pitch in with a cash donation of any type the evening of the tailgate. I am not looking to make any money, so to encourage a healthy donation from everyone, all money that is in excess of what I used to purchase food, I will donate to Boomerang Backpack, a program that helps provide food to Warsaw area students with need over the weekend. I would love for the class of 2007 to donate at least $500! Boomerang Backpacks mission is to nourish low income elementary students on weekends by providing backpacks full of food and to inspire high school students to experience community service through project based learning and gain an understanding of helping others in need. Boomerang Backpacks serves students within four Warsaw Community Schools, with a vision to add 1-2 additional schools. Additional benefits of Boomerang Backpacks include improving attendance at school on Fridays when the students receive their backpacks, and improving student achievements on Mondays since the students are able to eat over the weekend. Also, as I said before, this will be a family friendly event. I will have music playing, cornhole and other lawn games, face paint/temporary tattoos, pompoms, etc. for the kids (or whoever wants them!) I would imagine Id start up grilling around 5pm and kickoff for the game is 7:30pm for those interested in going to that. That leaves plenty of time to mingle and catch up with former classmates! If you would like to help in any way for this, please shoot me a message on here. Or, if anyone else has a better idea for what to do, Im open to suggestions. Reminder, the game is in 10 days on Friday, September 12th.
