Okay, so yesterday *sucked* eggs! 1st: I had to be off my constant allergy meds for three whole days prior to the experience...which left me itchy all over and sniffly and feeling like my head was too big for my skull. Not to mention the pain in fingers and toes was unbelievable...like I wasnt oxygenated. 2nd: Then I do the test and Im told Im complicated issues. ....Im not actually allergic to any *foods* at all on the test (although Im prolly still Celiac as that doesnt show on food allergy). I was a bit miffed. Im most certainly allergic to some foods; but not on the level that an allergist considers allergic I guess. According to doc, Allergic means anaphylactic and anything else is just reactive to the food. The fact that being reactive means you might one day have anaphylactic and as patient you are seeking treatment to avoid *that*...doesnt seem to enter the equation. Okay...fine.... Most likely Im *this* en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_Allergy_Syndrome It makes sense, actually, in a weird sort of way. I have *always* been highly hayfeverish; even in my lived-in for over 30 years desert climate! Except for my stint in Pennsylvania and Alaska, Ive never lived away from desert at all. But I tend to have real problems with plants/trees/flowers brought in from other places. The Mulberry Trees which were planted throughout Tucson in the 60s and are non-native...always a problem. Wind--always a problem. So I have always been on hayfever meds for at least part of year, and since 2003 Ive been on them 24/7/365 because that was when the cross-over happened, I think, and I started having issues with foods. After the bariatric surgery of 2009 it is likely that I no longer had the digestive tract (darn near a fact, I presume) to help in denaturing the toxins, and therefore I started having the digestive issues associated with the cross-over. For that matter, going back to before the bariatric surgery of 2009, I had problems with stomach issues--all of them listed--every time I ate, period. So it may have been affecting me then and I just wasnt catching on to it as I wasnt aware of this syndromes existence. It also makes sense about the latex allergy: Im allergic to latex...we *know* that without a doubt; but the bananas, avocados, etc. of the tropical portion cinches that it is the latex content and not the food bothering me; especially since I did not react to banana or avocado themselves. Does this mean that I could have a GF COOKED Banana Bread and not suffer the consequences of an allergy stint because the protein had changed in cooking? Perhaps....maybe if I sauteed the banana first to make sure cooked well....??? It would also explain, in small part, the family allergy to rum that we develop after about age 26 or so. I did, my kids have, my mom did. Im allergic to latex; I wonder if my kids are? ...I know my mom was. Rum is made from tropical sugarcane for most part, which would mean cross-contamination by tropical bees and pollen/trees. Hmmmmm. Does this mean I could make my own rum from local desert sugar and get a different result? May be worth trying at some point.... In meantime, my allergist is sending over the result of consult; and then I will be getting an allergy referral to attempt the same testing but with environmental/chemical based items. Know Im not allergic to cats/dogs...but interesting to see which trees/plants/chemicals I tend to react to these days. In my original test in 2007 I was allergic to almost every tree, bush and flower that grew in the desert. Oh, and mold/mildew/dust was a biggie than, too. Denaris Kris, Im wondering if this is the same thing that the doc might have been thinking you were experiencing?
