Okay, to be perfectly clear, I have no desire to start playing - TopicsExpress

Okay, to be perfectly clear, I have no desire to start playing again. If it ever drops the insane subscription (I know thats impossible) then I would dabble, but only just. At the same time, Ive not been interested in the games progression since we destroyed Arthas, and I was satisfied with Groshas story at that point. The new expansion is quite interesting, and not at all what I was anticipating. But I also have a huge problem with it. Deathwing failed to excite. A big dragon, break the world, growl. Yay. Did nothing for the story. Then there were freaking pandas. Pandas. Cmon people. Some of the events were interesting, but only as mild amusements coupled with head-slapping groans with what liberties they were taking with the massive Warcraft lore and shoehorning in their version of China. Integrated with both these expansions Ive had no interest in playing was my problem. My problem was introduced half-way through Burning Crusade, which was very enjoyable. My problem came into his own during the Wrath of the Lich King, and was anything but a problem at that time. My problem could have been a jewel in Warcrafts story, but has since crapped the whole thing up. If you havent guessed it by now, my problem is Garrosh Hellscream. Thrall is the best Warcraft character. From slavery and abuse, he rose to escape his cruel human captors and gathered the remnants of the Horde, leading them to freedom and was crucial in the first defeat of the Burning Legion, along with my problems anything but problematic father Grommash Hellscream, arguably my second favorite character. Thrall then rules Orgrimmar with justice and strength, leads the Horde in the Burning Crusade, and again in Northrend, being all-around awesome all the while. So when Deathwing attacks, why does Garrosh now lead the Horde? Hes a total jerk, and everything he does is against the interests of the Horde. Sure, Thrall goes back to his shamanistic roots to try and keep the world from falling apart, he has a bigger responsibility than leading. But why put Garrosh in his place, when hes already shown Thrall that his actions are guided by his hurt feelings and inflated views of the Glory of the Horde? Later Garrosh kills Blaine, second in command of the Horde. Straight up kills him. Theres a whole event, so its not a secret or anything, everyone in the Horde knows Garrosh is a traitor and needs to be punished. And yet next thing hes doing is conquering Orgrimmar for himself and holds up in the most secure place until the heroes come along and get him. Garrosh escapes to the past, which is where this new expansion comes in. As the video shows, Garrosh teams up with his father before the Horde is created, to challenge Guldans motives and lure Mannoroth into the open where he can kill him early, before drinking his blood and cursing the orcs. Very interesting, especially since Guldan and his Shadow Council are also a big part of Groshas story. While I may be paying more attention to the story progression, Im not sure if I can ever get behind Garrosh as a main character, since hes already screwed up literally everything that Warcraft ever was, and the only redeeming quality is bringing Grom and the early leaders back. Im not gonna be playing, but Ill be paying attention. Another part of my problem is the same I have with Star Trek and other like Retcon-reboots, which this is inevitably going to become. Im not against them, but the greater question is never answered, which is infuriating to me. What the heck happens to the previous timeline? Why invalidate every story youve told up to that point just to play what-if? Even if the new story is good, I at least was some closure for the old stories, someway to tie it all together, otherwise I cant ever be invested in the reboot like I was in the older stuff. Yes, still looking at you, Star Trek. So, those are my grievances. Garrosh is a terrible creature that should have never been given power in the New Horde, and his actions have already proven to essentially destroy the Old Horde before it even began, where he WOULD have fit in. Heres hoping the Alt-Horde will do something awesome to make me feel like a dork for writing this :P
