‘Olde Ellison Bay Days’ Festival Will Be ‘Fishy’ This Year! Ellison Bay, WI. A Door County tradition continues later this month as Ellison Bay’s 47th annual Olde Ellison Bay Days returns with a touch of Hollywood class. The 2013 festival theme is “Feed the Fish”, in honor of the film well-known to Door County residents featuring Tony Shalhoub, star of the popular “Monk” TV series and winner of many theatrical awards.* Mr. Shalhoub – who played the irascible local sheriff in “Feed the Fish” – will serve as Grand Marshal of the 2013 Olde Ellison Bay Days’ Parade, which will roll down Grande View grade and through town beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29th. Filmed in and around Ellison Bay during the winter of 2008, “Feed the Fish” has become a favorite among Door County residents and drawn many seasonal visitors and vacationers to the County since its 2009 release nationwide. It’s Producer, Director (and Tony Shalhoub’s nephew) Michael Matzdorf, has agreed to serve as “Co-Marshal” of the Olde Ellison Bay Days’ Parade with Tony. This year, Olde Ellison Bay Days will commence at Ellison Bay’s Community Park at noon on Friday, June 28th, with live art demonstrations, children’s activities and pie baking contest judging in the Community Park Club House. In keeping with its fishy theme, the festival will climax on Saturday evening, June 29th, at the Mink River Basin Supper Club with music by the classic rock band, Rocky Waters. As always, Olde Ellison Bay Days will feature an extensive Arts & Crafts Fair, family entertainment ranging from kids’ games to Ellison Bay’s signature “water golf shoot-out” off the Community Park Pier, BBQ and traditional picnic fare, including root beer floats and strawberry shortcake like grandma used to make − as well as music by Replica band and a hike through the scenic Grande View property guided by the Door County Land Trust on Saturday afternoon! (See full schedule below.) The Ellison Bay Service Club, sponsor of Olde Ellison Bay Days, is dedicated to the enhancement, historic preservation, hospitality, and environmental beautification and conservation of Ellison Bay and the “Northern Door”. Ellison Bay is situated on Highway 42, some 45 minutes drive north of Sturgeon Bay, gateway to the Northern Door, offering a variety of attractions and accommodations for visitors. (See portalwisconsin.org/archives/EllisonBay_daytrip.cfm). According to Kim Shumway, president of the Ellison Bay Service Club, sponsor of Olde Ellison Bay Days, surprises and prizes for Festival visitors will be as awesome as ever this year (more specifics to come). And raffle tickets will be on sale to support Club projects, with prizes including Green Bay Packers tickets, a Leinenkugel Kayak and, of course, a Salmon Fishing Charter for two.
