On 1/24/14 at 9:53 pm Rockford Police M3 Street Team Officers conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Way Low gas station located at 2914 W. State St. The officers had recognized the driver of the vehicle as Larry Brown and the officers knew that Brown has a suspended Illinois Driver’s License. When the officers approached the vehicle the front seat passenger opened the door and fled on foot. One of the officers pursued this passenger who was identified as Tavaris Thompson. While pursuing Thompson he was seen throwing an item to the ground. A search of Brown located 7 counterfeit $20.00 bills in his pocket. A search of the vehicle Brown was driving yielded a baggie under the drivers seat, which contained 23. 4 grams of cannabis and 2 baggies of cannabis in the center console weighing 9 grams.. The items that Tavaris Thompson threw were a baggie containing 11 baggies of a crack cocaine weighing 2.1 grams, a baggie containing 1.3 grams of cannabis and 5 counterfeit $100.00b bills. Arrested: Larry Brown, 28 years old, Rockford resident Charges: Driving After Suspension, Violation of the Cannabis Control Act and Forgery Tavaris Thompson, 24 year old Rockford resident Charges: Violation of Cannabis Control Act, Violation of the Control Substance Act ( possession with intent to deliver cocaine within 1,000 feet of a church), Forgery, Resisting a Police Officer, Warrant for Possession a controlled substance with a bond of $200,000.00.
