On 8 August 1969, at a zebra crossing in London, Scottish photographer Iain Macmillan climbed a 10-foot stepladder and took the photo that may arguably be the most famous album cover in history, of the Beatles album ABBEY ROAD. Over a 10-minute period, beginning at 1130 local, Macmillan actually took six photos of the Beatles crossing the street near the EMI Studio on Abbey Road, St. Johns Wood, London. In all the photos, John Lennon leads the way, followed by Ringo, Paul, and George. The 5th photo, and the only one in which the Beatles were all in full step, became the album cover. Today, the zebra crossing on ABBEY ROAD has become a popular tourist attraction, with many Beatles fans imitating the crossing. There is ever a live webcam so one can constantly monitor what is taking place there!
