On April 3rd 1968, Martin Luther King Jr gave his last speech I Have Been to the Mountaintop in Memphis. I just listened to his speech in its entirety and what struck me most, is how applicable his exact words are today. No, not in a good way. We as a people have forgotten to remember our teachers instructions. Weve forgotten what power we have collectively and have instead relished in the individual trinkets that some of us have aquired along the way. Youd think wed remember. When it doesnt matter how many degrees you have behind your name, or how many zeros you have in your paycheck....when you see those blue lights and hear that siren, you feel the same fear every black person feels because to them we are all the same. So realize it doesnt matter how far youve made it if your brother is still in chains. We must concern ourselves with the condition of our people as a unit. Like it or not, that is what we are. Like it or not, there will never be change for one of us, until we demand change together for all of us. For your listening pleasure, I have included his last speech in its entirety. Im certain you can find 50 minutes today to remember.
